Boeing E-3 AWACS
E-3 AWACS Modernization
Modernization of the world's E-3 fleet will extend the E-3 mission as the key airborne command and control system well into the 21st century. Upgrades include passive detection capability, radar improvements, and new computers, sensors, and communications. E-3 will meet future theatre battle management needs, correlate onboard and off-board sensor information and more efficiently execute real-time battle management.

Nimrod Maritime Patrol Aircraft
The heart of the system is the Boeing-developed Digital Processing and Display System (DPDS), which combines high-speed data processing, color high-resolution displays, and software-configurable controls with customer-specified sensors. These include an advanced surveillance radar, electronic support measures, acoustic surveillance systems, electro-optics and a magnetic anomaly detector. The DPDS ensures mission completion by reducing operator workload and promoting crew coordination with reconfigurable workstations. Because the DPDS is lighter in weight, operating ranges can be extended, and each patrol aircraft can spend more time on-station compared to other stand-alone systems.
